However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area. It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or at school. best robot cleaner lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. IRobot Roomba The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. It also has an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning. This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models. When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+. IRobot Roomba X40 With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own). It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads. Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep. It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most. 4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads. The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords. The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has “Intelligent Dirt Detection”, which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with how dirty they are. For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families. iRobot RX3 The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable. The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any “no-go” areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning. Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
